01/ Overview
The route
This route leads from Gstaad to Saanen along the tranquil banks of the River Saane. An easy path that is notable for its impressive far-reaching views over this enchanting region.
This short hike links Gstaad and Saanen by the most direct route. From Gstaad railway station, it initially leads through the village. After just a few minutes, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,050 m. The ascent is barely noticeable, after which the trail descends gently for the most part. A short section runs outside the marked hiking trail network before rejoining the yellow-marked trail.
The Saane soon accompanies the route. Open meadows and pastures now dominate the landscape, interspersed with the edges of settlements and small patches of woodland. With no significant climbs, the route follows the valley floor towards Saanen; the proximity of the river gives the second half its peaceful character. After around three kilometres and just under an hour, the route reaches Saanen. The railway station is right at the finish, making this an uncomplicated walk between two villages in the Saanenland.
