01/ Overview
The route
An absolute classic! This very varied tour from Gstaad to Lauenen is perfect for families. An enjoyable hike indeed, it also affords picturesque views from the Höhi Wispile. The highlight is the legendary Lake Lauenen.
From Höhi Wispile station, the hiking trail initially climbs gently. Shortly after the start, the route reaches its highest point at Wispile, at around 1,940 m. From there, the trail crosses open meadows and pastures. It continues with steady ups and downs to Chrine before the long descent into the Lauenental begins.
Farther down, pastures alternate with sections of forest. After just under three hours, Lauenensee comes into view. This natural mountain lake lies at around 1,380 m, and the trail passes close to its shore. A barbecue site provides an ideal place for a rest.
From the lake, the route continues down the valley. The forest grows denser before the landscape opens up again towards Lauenen. After a total of 14 kilometres and around four hours, the hike ends in the village. The Lauenen bei Gstaad, Geltenhorn bus stop is located directly by the finish.

There may be snow on this hiking trail. Bring appropriate gear and plan accordingly.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
