01/ Overview
The route
From the Bernese Oberland into the Valais and on to Vaud. The Sanetsch-Muveran-Weg has stunning panoramic views and landscape elements in store: Les Diablerets, the Tsanfleuron karst field and the Derborence landslide area.
The long mountain hike begins by the post office in Gsteig, initially following a broad hiking trail. Soon the mountain trail climbs through forest and across open slopes to Sanetschsee. The route skirts the shore of the reservoir before continuing through rocky terrain. For a short stretch, it follows the Morge.
The trail continues over alpine pastures and stony slopes, with steady ups and downs, to Derborence. Lac de Derborence lies directly on the route and was formed by a rockfall in 1749. The lake and the surrounding old-growth pine forest are protected. After the village, the next long ascent begins; Lac de la Forcla adds a striking accent to the barren rocky terrain.
At Col de La Forcla, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,550 m. Cabane Rambert lies slightly off the route. A long descent then follows, initially across open slopes, later through forest and along easier trails to the first houses of Ovronnaz. After around 42 kilometres, the hike ends close to the Ovronnaz, centre bus stop.
