Chemin du Lac de Morat

The small medieval town of Murten, with its lake shore directly before the town walls, offers an especially scenic route around the Murtensee lake. The appealing lakeside promenade, vineyards and the historic old town is a must for romanticists!

From Murten railway station, the trail leads through the town and past the castle to Lake Murten. Shortly afterwards, it reaches the shore of the smallest of Switzerland’s three large lakes at the foot of the Jura. The route continues via Muntelier into the forest of Le Chablais before the landscape opens up again.

On the way to Sugiez, a longer section runs outside the marked hiking trail network. Fields, meadows and small patches of woodland characterise this flat middle section. In the village, the gentle ascent to Mont Vully begins. The route now follows marked hiking trails again, gradually gaining height between open slopes and woodland.

Towards the end, the highest point is reached on the heights of Mont Vully at around 500 m. The view extends across the broad landscape shaped by the lake. A short descent then leads via Sur le Mont to Môtier. After a total of around eleven kilometres, the hike ends near the Môtier (Vully) stop.
