01/ Overview
The route
In the heart of the Vaud Alps, in a sunny climate, this winter walk between the hills above the village of Villars-sur-Ollon and the Villars Golf Course will take you along the famous Col de la Croix road leading to Les Diablerets.
The winter hike begins at the Villars-sur-Ollon, tennis stop in the village. Beyond the first houses, the route climbs steadily, soon leaving the built-up area behind. Open slopes dominate the scenery; over seven kilometres, the route gains around 340 metres in elevation.
About halfway along, the route passes the Buvette de la Verneyre. The long ascent then continues across open terrain. With scarcely any downhill sections, elevation is gained almost continuously until the final third. Towards the end, the Roc à l’Ours draws closer. Shortly before the destination, the winter hike reaches its highest point at around 1'620 m.
A little further on, Le Panoramique stands beside the trail at the Villars golf course. The route ends here; the Villars-sur-Ollon Golf stop is just over 300 metres away.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Winter hiking is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
