01/ Overview
The route
This circular trail on Ebenalp is particularly suitable for beginners on snowshoes – or as a less strenuous, enjoyable hike with plenty of views. With good visibility the panorama stretches over Lake Constance to the Black Forest.
The short snowshoe circuit begins at Ebenalp station on open terrain. The route initially descends as meadows and pastures gradually give way to rockier slopes. After around a third of the route, the lowest point is reached at about 1,530 metres. The Eremitenhöhle lies close by, while the Wildkirchli, with its three caves and the Chapel of St Michael, is set into the rock below.
The route then climbs again, gaining around 100 metres of elevation over a short distance. Open terrain continues to define the landscape, interspersed with rocky outcrops. Towards the end, the circuit reaches its highest point at just over 1,600 metres, in the vicinity of Schäfler. From there, the final arc leads back to Ebenalp, ending at the station after a total of around one kilometre and 40 minutes.
