The route
Breathtaking views and breathtaking climbs: Hikers on showshoes with a very good level of fitness can enjoy this varied route between Kronberg and Säntis.
The snowshoe trail begins at the Schwägalp, Säntis-Schwebebahn stop, at the foot of the Alpstein. The route initially leads out of the settled area and across open terrain. After around one kilometre, it passes the houses of Siebenhütten; beyond them, open areas alternate with stretches of woodland.
After an initial ascent, the trail temporarily loses elevation and reaches its lowest point just past the halfway mark. The defining climb then follows: over the five kilometres, the route gains around 460 metres in elevation. The woodland gradually recedes as the destination draws closer across the open slopes.
After around three hours, the snowshoe tour ends at Kronberg, at just under 1,650 m, the highest point on the route. Kronberg’s renowned panoramic views extend across the Alpstein as far as Central Switzerland and the Allgäu. The Kronberg stop is located immediately beside the finish.
