01/ Overview
The route
On the sunny side of Wildhaus – with a spectacular view to the Churfirsten – this round trip leads from Wildhaus up to the high plateau of Gamplüt and the Alp Fros on the foothills of Schafberg at Wildhaus.
The starting point of the snowshoe tour is just a short walk from the Wildhaus, Dorf bus stop. Leaving the houses behind, the route climbs across open meadows and pastures. It gains around 300 metres in elevation over a short distance, with the sustained ascent defining the first half of the tour, which takes just over two hours. The higher the route climbs, the further the houses of Wildhaus recede.
Above the village, the route continues to its highest point at just under 1'360 m, near Stei. The summit itself, however, remains off the route. It then descends over open slopes to the Lisigweid barbecue site, which lies directly on the circuit. From there, the descent continues, with the final stretch heading towards the houses. After around four kilometres, the loop closes at the starting point in Wildhaus.
