01/ Overview
The route
This tour for beginners with just a few inclines and declines leads through the landscape around the two Schwendi Lakes. Without major efforts you can enjoy the winter landscape and the view to Chäserrugg and the Alpstein massif.
From the Wildhaus Oberdorf bus stop, the snowshoe circuit begins by the Funi Bar. The route initially climbs across open meadows, reaching its highest point at around 1,250 m within the first quarter of the trail, not far from Stei. It then descends through meadows and damp hollows south of Wildhaus.
Around halfway, the Vordere Schwendisee lies almost directly on the route. The Schwendiseen are located in upper Toggenburg above Wildhaus and Unterwasser; the former municipal boundary between Wildhaus and Alt St. Johann ran through the lakes. The Klanghaus Toggenburg also stands nearby. The circuit then continues gently up and down across open terrain back to Wildhaus Oberdorf. After four kilometres and just under two hours, it ends back at the bus stop.
