Engelberger Rundweg

Engelberg – a well-known and popular excursion destination. This round tour leads from the impressive monastery to the picturesque River Engelberger Aa and constantly affords wonderful views of idyllic rural landscapes and the spectacular mountain panorama.

From Engelberg railway station, the route initially leads through the village, passing close to the monastery church. The houses are soon left behind, giving way to open meadows. At the start, a short section runs outside the marked hiking trail network; the route then rejoins the yellow-marked hiking trail. The valley circuit continues at the Maria im Holz chapel.

With only around 100 metres of elevation gain, the route remains gentle overall. The trail crosses open terrain and reaches its highest point, at around 1,060 m, roughly halfway along. Rather than a distinct summit destination, this section is defined by the broad valley floor and the surrounding mountain slopes.

In the second half, the route heads back towards Engelberg without any major climbs. Meadows line the trail as far as the edge of the settlement, before the circuit returns to the village. After just over two hours and around eight kilometres, it ends at Engelberg railway station.
