01/ Overview
The route
An outing to the magnificent Genevan countryside through the vineyards between the Arve river and the lake. From Hermance, you pass through the villages of Anières, Corsier, Gy, Jussy and Lullier to reach Choulex.
The roughly 18-kilometre hike begins at the Hermance, village bus stop. Right at the start, the route passes the Church of Saint-Georges and the Tour d’Hermance, probably dating from the 13th century and all that remains of the former castle. It then leaves Lake Geneva behind and continues via Chevrens into the open countryside.
Fields and settlements alternate along the way. After Corsier, the Bois de Merlinge provides a shady woodland section before the landscape opens up again near Gy. Broad hiking trails lead gently up and down through Geneva’s hinterland. Near Jussy lie the vineyards of Château du Crest. Close to Lullier, the route reaches its highest point at around 470 m.
The trail then descends gradually towards Choulex, accompanied for a short stretch by the Seymaz. Shortly before the destination, the Café des Amis stands directly on the route. After just under four and a half hours, the hike ends at the Choulex, village bus stop.
