01/ Overview
The route
The Erlenbach and Küsnacht Gorge area boasts much natural beauty. Highlights include the waterfall and the huge erratic boulder, Alexander's Stone, a large sandstone rock left over from the Ice Age.
From Erlenbach ZH station, not far from Lake Zurich, the waymarked hiking trail initially climbs through residential areas. It soon enters the forest and passes the Erlenbach Dorfbach waterfall. Higher up, the ascent follows the Chappelibach.
After sections through forest and across open countryside, the route reaches its highest point at around 690 m. It then descends to the Dorfbach and into the wooded Rieschbachtobel gorge. The stream now sets the course; between steep slopes and shady stretches of forest, the trail gradually loses elevation.
In the Küsnachter Tobel gorge, another waterfall provides a striking highlight. Shortly afterwards, the Drachenhöhle cave lies close to the trail before the Dorfbach emerges from the forest and leads into Küsnacht. After around ten kilometres and just under three hours, the hike ends at Küsnacht ZH station. The many forest trails and the two gorges define this peaceful route along the right shore of Lake Zurich.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
