01/ Overview
The route
The final stage of the lakeside circuit takes you from open fields and farmland to the bright lights of Zurich, through a surprisingly quiet ravine and along the lakeside promenade to the mouth of the Limmat and thus back to Bürkliplatz.
From the Küsnacht ZH, Allmend bus stop, the hiking trail initially follows the Aegertenbach. The houses soon give way to woodland and open meadows. After the first ascent, the route passes directly by Rumensee. This small lake is classified as a nature conservation site of supraregional importance.
The trail continues through the green hinterland above Lake Zurich. Near Ötlisberg, the hike reaches its highest point at around 560 m; from there, it descends mostly gently. Stretches of woodland and pasture alternate as the urban area draws closer. The Mühlebödeli barbecue area offers an opportunity for a rest.
In Zurich, the surroundings become more urban. The route leads to Riesbach and follows the Hornbach for a time. Close to the trail is the blindekuh restaurant, where guests are served in the dark. The route continues through the inner neighbourhoods to the lake. After around eleven kilometres and just under three hours, the hike ends at Bürkliplatz, a few steps from Lake Zurich and Quaibrücke; the Zürich Bürkliplatz (See) stop is right beside it.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
