01/ Overview
The route
A panoramic high-level hike from Rigi Scheidegg to Rigi Kaltbad, characterised by open alpine pastures, peaceful stretches of forest and sweeping views across the Kreuztrichter to the Bernese Alps.
From the Rigi Scheidegg mountain station, reached by aerial cableway from Kräbel, the trail initially leads past the chapel. Shortly after the start, it reaches the highest point of the hike at around 1,650 metres. The route continues across open meadows towards Hinder Dosse, gradually losing altitude. The view extends far across the Kreuztrichter to the Bernese Alps, with Rigi Kulm and the Mythen also visible.
Alpine pastures and stretches of forest then alternate. A well-maintained hiking trail leads through the area around Alp Gletti and Unterstetten towards Würzenstock. For this section, there is a choice between the Panoramaweg and the Felsenweg. Near the barbecue shelter, there is an opportunity to stop for a rest before the view opens up again between forest and meadows.
At Rigi First, the first houses come into view. The final section leads to the Seeweg and on to Rigi Kaltbad. The route ends near the Rigi Kaltbad-First stop; the mineral baths and spa are also located at the destination.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
