01/ Overview
The route
Geology, a chapel and panoramic views characterise the gentle hiking trail from Rigi First via Kaltbad and Känzeli up to Rigi Staffel.
The starting point at Rigi First lies away from public transport; the nearest stop, Freibergen, is around 800 m away. Suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, the route initially leads across open meadows and through the houses of Rigi First. The Rigi Flower Trail also serves as a geological trail and follows a waymarked hiking path almost throughout.
After a gentle descent, the route reaches Rigi Kaltbad. Shortly afterwards, the rock chapel of St. Michael stands directly beside the path. According to legend, the chapel, which is worthy of preservation, became a place of pilgrimage; together with the spring at Kaltbad, it is one of the early sites of tourism on the Rigi. The Känzeli viewpoint follows a little further on.
The path now climbs more noticeably through open terrain. At the Regina Montium mountain inn, the Rigi Rotstock draws near, but the route remains below the summit. Towards the end, the slopes become rockier. After around five kilometres, the route reaches its highest point and destination at Rigi Staffel, at just over 1,600 m; the railway station is only a few steps away.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
