01/ Overview
The route
Fern-rich forests, striking rock formations and the deep-blue waters of Lake Brienz define this short circuit above the village of Iseltwald.
From the Iseltwald, Dorfplatz bus stop, the lakeside path first leads through the village and directly along Lake Brienz. Its steep shores plunge into the depths with almost no shallow-water zones. Above the bay, views open up back towards Iseltwald and across to Seeburg, which lies by the lake away from the route. Alternatively, the village can also be reached by boat from Interlaken Ost or Brienz.
The route soon leaves the shore and gradually gains height along the upper Giessbachweg. In the forest, rocks and various species of fern dominate the landscape; they are likely to have given Farnihubel its name. The hiking trail continues uphill between the Farnihubel rocks and reaches its highest point near Litschgiburg at around 730 m.
The trail then descends through the forest and across open meadows to Isch. The final stretch leads back down to the lake and through the houses of Iseltwald to Dorfplatz.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
