01/ Overview
The route
This route from Furi down to Zermatt village offers views of the region's stunning scenery, always accompanied by the impressive Matterhorn. The untouched landscape surrounded by a magnificent mountain world is a true feast for the eyes.
The hike begins at the Furi stop, at around 1,850 m also the highest point of the route. The trail starts its descent between the houses and passes close to Restaurant Sami. Before long, the settlement is left behind and the path enters the forest.
With no significant uphill sections, the route steadily loses altitude. Stretches of forest alternate with open meadows and pastures, while the descent remains the defining feature. In the second half, isolated houses come back into view. The trail passes directly by Restaurant Waldhaus and continues downhill towards the village.
Towards the end, the buildings of Zermatt become denser. The Church of St Mauritius lies directly on the route. The trail continues through the built-up area, reaching its destination in Zermatt after a total of around five kilometres; the Zermatt stop is just a few steps from the endpoint.
