01/ Overview
The route
A long circuit along the municipal boundary through meadows and forests around Triengen: the Merger Trail links panoramic heights near Stierenberg with villages in the Surental, returning to the starting point after just under nine hours.
From the Triengen Grund bus stop, it is only a few steps to the start on Moosgassstrasse. The signposted Merger Trail follows the municipal boundary for around 30 kilometres. The route climbs through meadows and forest to Wellnau. Shortly afterwards, near Stierenberg, it reaches its highest point at around 830 m; Cheerplatz offers an ideal spot for a first break.
The trail then continues through the Surental in a long succession of ascents and descents. Four labelled viewing platforms provide points of interest along the way, as do farm shops and benches. The trail’s own signs also show the way where the route runs outside the network of yellow-marked hiking trails. Crossing open countryside and wooded ridges, the trail leads to Winikon.
In the final third, the circuit climbs once more to the houses of Letten. It then descends via Dieboldswil and Bad Knutwil, returning to the plains of the Sure. After just under nine hours, the Merger Trail ends back on Moosgassstrasse, a few steps from the Triengen Grund bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
