01/ Overview
The route
Forest paths, hand-carved figures from local legends and the approximately 870-metre-high Stierenberg define this short family circuit through dense woodland and open meadows.
From the starting point in Rickenbach, which lies away from public transport links, the route initially climbs along unpaved roads. The nearest stop, Rickenbach LU, Rüchlig, is around 900 metres away. Soon, soft-surfaced paths lead into the forest on Stierenberg. Here, hand-carved sculptures depict the legends surrounding the ridge, although this route does not follow the actual themed trail throughout.
After just under half the route, the highest point is reached at Stierenberg, at around 870 metres. The wooded hill lies west of Menziken in the canton of Aargau. The path then continues among the trees for a while before the landscape opens out into meadows and pastures. In the final third, the circuit once again follows a waymarked hiking trail and returns to Rickenbach after an hour and a half; the nearest stop is just over a kilometre from the endpoint.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
