Giro del Castello di Serravalle

This hike in the lower Blenio valley leads up to the ruins of Selvapiana. Through the ever-changing scenery with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, the trail passes magnificent stone houses, villas and finally the castle of Serravalle.

Starting from the Malvaglia, Piazza d’armi bus stop, the six-kilometre circuit begins in Rongie. A broad hiking trail initially leads to Ludiano. From there, the mountain trail climbs much more steeply, quickly gaining height between open meadows and woodland. The hike takes just over two and a half hours and involves around 500 metres of ascent.

The highest point lies at around 780 m. Shortly afterwards, the route reaches Navone, a small settlement on the hillside. The Oratorio di Santa Maria Bambina stands directly beside the trail. The circuit now turns downhill. The descent continues along a mountain trail, dipping into the forest in places.

In Semione, the route passes the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. This 18th-century church was built on the site of an older place of worship. On the final section, the path broadens again and leads across the valley floor back to Rongie. The circuit ends at the Malvaglia, Piazza d’armi bus stop.
