Giro delle Tre Valli

Leventina, Blenio and Riviera – this tour shows the valleys of the northern Ticino in their best light. The walk leads below the summit of Monte Matro through larch forests, colourful meadows and across pastures. The Pian d'Alpe hut is a pleasant place for a break.

The circular hike starts in the heart of the village at the Sobrio, Paese bus stop. The route passes Restaurant Symphony right at the beginning, then leaves the houses behind. The white-red-white marked mountain trail climbs briskly through the forest. Almost 900 metres of ascent are covered in the first four kilometres or so; the long climb defines this roughly five-hour tour.

Near Matro, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,940 m. Shortly afterwards, it crosses the Bassa dei Cantói before beginning the descent. Further on, dense forest and open meadows alternate.

The mountain trail now descends steadily, traversing wooded slopes back towards Sobrio. Near the end, the first houses appear at Bidrè, close to the lowest point of the circuit. From there, a final counter-climb leads back to Sobrio. After around twelve kilometres, the route ends once more at the Sobrio, Paese bus stop.
