Giro del Monte Tamaro

Glittering lakes and snow-capped peaks – stunning panoramic views and countless leisure activities make Monte Tamaro a popular destination. Things to see on the loop trail to the peak: the church S.Maria degli Angeli designed by architect Mario Botta, Capanna Tamaro, and delightful Alpe Duragno on the return.

The circular route starts at the Alpe Foppa stop by the Chapel of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Mario Botta designed this striking structure in the early 1990s; built of concrete and porphyry, it was completed at 1,530 m in 1996. Beyond it, the mountain path climbs steadily across open meadows and pastures. The ten-kilometre circuit involves around 720 metres of ascent.

After about an hour and a half, the route reaches Monte Tamaro. At around 1,960 m, this is the highest point of the hike. Shortly afterwards, the mountain path crosses the Bocchetta del Motto Rotondo and begins the long descent. Farther down, the open terrain gives way to forest. Towards the end of the descent, the route reaches its lowest point at around 1,435 m.

From there, the mountain path climbs once more. It leads through the forest and back to the Alpine pastures, where the circuit is completed after a little over three and a half hours. The final steps lead to the chapel and the Alpe Foppa stop.
