01/ Overview
The route
From the small village of Medeglia, you hike through birch forests, moorlands and a former military zone to Alpe Davrosio. A picturesque mountain trail leads to the viewpoint at Motto della Croce. One hike ends and another stage begins at the beautiful Capanna Monte Bar mountain hut.
The approximately eleven-kilometre ascent begins at the Medeglia, Paese bus stop. At the Chiesa di San Bartolomeo, the mountain trail immediately leaves the village and climbs through woodland and across open slopes. Gola di Lago is reached after around three kilometres.
From there, the route follows an almost continuously waymarked white-red-white mountain trail. It continues uphill towards Monte Bar, alternating between sections of woodland and pasture. The barren grassy ridge of Caval Drossa stands out in the surrounding landscape, although the summit itself lies off the route. The constant alternation between shady woodland and open terrain gives this long ascent its rhythm.
After a good four hours, the hike ends at Capanna Monte Bar, situated below the summit of the same name. At around 1,600 m, this is also the highest point. The destination is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Corticiasca, Vecchia, is around 1.5 kilometres away.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
