Sentiero del Monte Bar

This walk passes two of the most beautiful viewpoints of the region: Motto della Croce and Monte Bar in Val Colla. With Lugano and surroundings below, the views range all the way to Milan in good weather. This alone is worth the steep ascent over meadows, alps and through forests.

The circular hike begins with a long ascent from the Corticiasca, Paese bus stop. The mountain trail, marked in white-red-white, leads out of the village and climbs steadily through forest and open pastures. Just over halfway up, it crosses the sparse grassy ridge of Caval Drossa. On clear days, the panoramic view extends from the mountain ranges of the Alps across the Lombardy plain to the Ligurian Apennines.

Higher up, the terrain remains open. At Monte Bar, the route reaches its highest point at around 1'820 m; the summit lies between Val Colla and Val d’Isone. The descent then begins. Just below the summit stands Capanna Monte Bar at 1'600 m. From the hut, the mountain trail returns to the forest and descends the steep slope to the bus stop in Corticiasca.
