Sentiero del Monte Gambarogno

Hiking tour from Alpe di Neggia to the traditional Ticino village of Indemini, built entirely from stone. The panoramic view from Monte Gambarogno across Lago Maggiore is quite unusual. Cheese is available for tasting at Alpe Cedullo, and a visit to the free-standing Sant’Anna church is highly recommended.

From the Alpe di Neggia, Alpe bus stop, the mountain hike begins directly on the Passo dell’Alpe di Neggia at around 1,400 m. The narrow mountain path initially climbs through open pastures. After just over two kilometres, the route reaches its highest point on the flank of Monte Gambarogno at nearly 1,700 m.

The rhythm now changes: instead of continuing uphill, the path begins a long descent through alternating pastures and woodland. Around halfway, Alpe Cedullo lies directly on the route; its restaurant makes a good place for a break. Shortly afterwards, the mountain path passes Sant’Anna and enters the forest once more.

Towards the end, the route again loses considerable elevation. After a total of eight kilometres and just over two and a half hours, the houses of Indemini come into view. The destination is the Indemini, Paese bus stop. Overall, the hike involves around 380 metres of ascent, but it is the approximately 800 metres of descent that define the route.
