Giro Lungolago Ascona

Ascona resembles a tranquil fishing village and exudes a Mediterranean air with it's pretty streetside cafés and the romantic old town. This route shows you this small town and the wonderful Lago Maggiore lake at their best.

The circular walk begins at the Ascona, Centro bus stop. At around 205 m, the highest point is right at the starting point. The route leads through the lively town centre, passing the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo and, shortly afterwards, Castello dei Griglioni. The houses soon give way to more open meadows and green spaces.

With no significant climbs, the path sweeps in a wide arc through the flat surroundings of Ascona. For long stretches it follows the waymarked hiking trail, with occasional sections away from the hiking network. The alternation between open countryside and loosely built-up neighbourhoods gives this circuit its peaceful character.

Towards the end, the buildings become denser again, and the route passes within a few steps of Lago Maggiore. From there, it is not far back to the centre of Ascona. After around 6 km and a good hour and a half, the walk ends near the same bus stop where it began.
