01/ Overview

The route

This obstacle-free trail leads from Agno along the scenic shores of Lake Lugano to Caslano. With Monte Caslano always in plain sight, you walk between green hills and the tranquil lakeshore. The lively piazza of Caslano is the perfect place to end the tour.

From the Agno stop, the walk initially leads through the village and out into open countryside. After a short unmarked section, it joins a broad hiking trail. The elevation profile remains almost level: over the roughly six kilometres, there are only a few metres of ascent and descent, and the shore of Lake Lugano is soon reached. This branching pre-Alpine lake, also known as Ceresio, extends across the Swiss–Italian border region.

From the lakeshore, the route continues towards Magliaso. Monte San Giorgio rises near the village. Between Magliaso and Caslano, open spaces alternate with rows of houses, while the trail remains almost level. Osteria alla foce lies directly on the route; closer to Caslano, Osteria Debarcadero follows. Towards the end, the trail climbs gently through Caslano, reaching both the destination and the highest point at around 290 m. The Caslano stop is just a few steps away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
