01/ Overview
The route
The Cultural Trail links chapels, the convent and village history with open meadows and the lakeshore at Brunnen. Information panels recount the stories of notable figures, buildings and historic sites.
The Great Cultural Trail begins at the Muota car park near the Brunnen, Sportplatzweg bus stop. The unmarked route initially leads out of the built-up area and climbs gently between meadows to the Laurentius Chapel in Wylen. At Bützi, it reaches its highest point at around 480 m before descending to Restaurant Alpenrösli. As longer sections lie outside the marked hiking trail network, careful navigation is important along the way.
In the second half, the route follows the Leewasser and passes the Zahnwehkapelle on the way to Unterschönenbuch. Information panels explore the history of this former trading village and introduce notable figures, buildings and cultural treasures of Ingenbohl-Brunnen.
At Kloster Ingenbohl, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, the Cultural Trail returns to a more densely built-up area. It continues through Ingenbohl to Brunnen and close to the shore of Lake Lucerne. After the Bundeskapelle, the route follows the Muota back to the car park of the same name.

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
