01/ Overview
The route
A short final stage with far-reaching views: across pastures to the Wachthubel, then down to Schangnau with views of the Hohgant, Schrattenfluh and Bernese Alps.
The final stage of the Entlebuch–Emmental High-Level Trail begins at Grosshorben. The yellow-waymarked hiking trail climbs across open pastures via Bergegg to the Wachthubel. After around two kilometres, the highest point is reached at approximately 1,410 m. The municipal boundaries of Eggiwil, Schangnau and Escholzmatt-Marbach meet on the main summit of the Obere Fluh.
From the heights, the route follows the panoramic ridge of the Oberi Flue. The view extends to the Hohgant, Schrattenfluh and Sichle, with the Bernese Alps in the distance. Between alpine pastures and short sections of forest, the trail initially loses altitude only gently before the descent into the upper Emmental becomes steeper.
Farther down, forest predominates, with clearings in between opening up views into the valley. Schangnau draws closer as the first farms appear. The route reaches the village at the Gasthof zum Löwen; a few steps later, the hike of just over five kilometres ends at the Schangnau, Post bus stop.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
