01/ Overview
The route
From Marbachegg, this panoramic high-level hike crosses alpine pastures and follows mountain paths to Hürnli. Views of the Schrattenfluh and the Bernese High Alps accompany the long descent through woodland and meadows to Marbach.
The Bretzeli cable car runs from Marbach up to the start of the hike on Marbachegg. At the mountain inn, the route sets off across open pastureland and passes the reservoir on the way towards Oberlochsittli. It continues via Chadhus to Alp Imbrig, where Mutschli, raclette, goat’s cheese and alpine butter are among the products on offer.
The mountain path then becomes steeper. It leads via Steiwang into the Hürndliegg area; near the highest point at around 1,530 m, views open up towards the Schrattenfluh and the Bernese High Alps. Around Hürnli, visible damage to the forest is a reminder of a foehn storm. Picnic spots and fire pits are available by the Hürnlihütte.
The long descent begins at Schübelsmoosegg. Alternating between woodland and open meadows, the route passes through Schüberlsmoos and steadily loses altitude. Towards the end, the first houses of Marbach come into view. After a good four and a half hours, the hike ends at the valley station of the mountain railways; the Marbachegg, Talstation PostBus stop is immediately adjacent.
