01/ Overview
The route
From Marbachegg, this panoramic high-level hike crosses alpine pastures to Alp Imbrig before a steep mountain trail descends into the valley of the Kleine Emme and on to Kemmeriboden-Bad.
The Bretzeli cable car takes hikers from Marbach up to Marbachegg, where the route begins by the mountain inn at around 1,460 m, already its highest point. The hiking trail crosses open pastures to Spichersee. Along the way, there are views of the Schrattenfluh, Hohgant and as far as the Bernese Alps.
The route continues via Ober Lochsitli, Wittenfären and Kadhus, gently rising and falling on the way to Alp Imbrig. The small alpine inn with its cheese dairy sells Mutschli, raclette cheese and goat’s cheese. The trail then continues via Oberhabchegg and Lauizug, where the broad hiking trail becomes a mountain trail.
The steep, rocky descent begins towards Schibenhüttli. Via Ober Chemmeri and Unter Chemmeri, the route rapidly loses altitude and briefly reaches the Kleine Emme on the valley floor. After a little over two and a half hours, it ends at the nearby Kemmeriboden PostBus stop and the Kemmeriboden-Bad country inn, known for its charcoal-oven-baked Merängge.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
