01/ Overview
The route
A short panoramic circuit across open Alpine pastures: marmots live on Gassenegg, a barbecue area and wooden benches await by the reservoir, while the Eiger, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn rise on the horizon.
From the Marbachegg mountain station, it is only a few steps to the mountain inn, where the family-friendly circuit begins at just under 1,470 m, its highest point. The gondola lift from Marbach is known as the Bretzelibahn. The route initially follows a waymarked hiking trail across open meadows to Gassenegg. Marmots live there in the wild and can be spotted with a little patience.
The panorama extends to Schibegütsch and Hogant, with the Bernese High Alps beyond. Schreckhorn, Finsteraarhorn and the Eiger also form part of the sweeping mountain vista. The route continues to the reservoir, with its barbecue area and wooden benches. Two small lakes add further highlights amid the Alpine pastures. The trail then descends by just under 100 metres; on the way back, it leaves the waymarked route in places before a short final ascent leads back to Marbachegg. After a little over half an hour, the circuit ends back at the Berggasthaus Marbachegg.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
