01/ Overview
The route
Wild, romantic route through the valley of the Emme. The rock faces of Hohgant and Schrattenflue are impressive, the former bathhouse at Kemmeriboden-Bad interesting. The wetland biotopes near Sörenberg have made Entlebuch a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
From the Schangnau, Post bus stop, the route initially leads through the village. Open meadows and pastures soon dominate the scenery, interspersed with stretches of woodland and scattered farms. Gently undulating, the route runs via Leuegg and Hinter Leu towards Kemmeribodenbad. After around nine kilometres, it reaches the valley floor.
The ascent then becomes longer. The waymarked hiking trail climbs through woodland and open pasture to the Berggasthaus Salwideli, which lies directly on the route. Wetter areas provide a quiet contrast among the pastures. Beyond the mountain inn, the trail continues to climb, reaching the highest point of the hike near Schwarzeneggchnubel at around 1,450 m.
The route now turns downhill. A mosaic of open slopes and woodland leads down to Sörenberg. After 19 kilometres and a good five and a half hours, the hike ends at the Sörenberg, Post bus stop. The total ascent amounts to around 860 metres; despite the easy trails, the distance calls for stamina.
