Holzji Trail

Between the hamlet of Rischinen and Aletschbord, you’ll experience nature at its most beautiful – via the hamlet of Egga with views into the valley, the trail continues until Holzji and the observation post. Once at Aletschbord, you can gaze in wonder at several four-thousand-metre peaks and the Great Aletsch Glacier.

The snowshoe tour starts at the Blatten b. Naters (Belalpbahn) stop, among the houses of Blatten. Before long, the route climbs into the Rischinerwald, gaining elevation steadily. The seven-kilometre route involves around 820 metres of ascent; a good four hours should be allowed to reach the mountain station.

Between Rischinen and Egga, houses break up the forest. Higher up, the terrain opens out into broad slopes as the ascent continues. Nearby, the Gibidum reservoir lies above the Massaschlucht, but remains well away from the route at a distance of over 200 metres.

Near Aletschbord, the route continues uphill and shortly afterwards reaches its highest point at around 2,140 m. It then loses only a little elevation. The route leads via Bruchegg to the houses of Belalp and finally to the mountain station, where the Belalp stop lies directly at the finish.
