01/ Overview

The route

Sunny and with a view of the Rhone Valley: The snowshoe trail from the Rosswald mountain station climbs around 300 metres in altitude to the Fleschboden restaurant. Over a wide plain, through an open forest and past chalets, the easy tour ends back at the starting point.

The snowshoe tour starts at the Rosswald stop, in the heart of the hamlet of the same name. The ascent begins between the houses, soon leaving the settled area behind. The route enters the forest and steadily gains altitude over a short distance.

Higher up, the terrain opens out. Near the Fleschboden mountain restaurant, the trail crosses open slopes to the highest point at around 2,120 m. After a little over an hour, the halfway point of the four-kilometre circuit is reached. The return route descends in a wide arc towards Rosswald, alternating between open terrain and forest.

At the edge of the hamlet, the route passes a fire pit. A little further on, the Glimmuschiir chapel stands directly beside the trail. The route then descends through the first houses to the starting point at the Rosswald stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
