01/ Overview
The route
The Hüoterhüsi trail leads through dense fir forests, along a Valais suone (irrigation channel) to the water warden's house: the Hüoterhüsi. The return route via the Alp Bodma pasture in its dream-like setting is enough on its own to make this tour worthwhile.
The eight-kilometre snowshoe loop starts directly at the bus terminal in Visperterminen. The ascent begins between the houses, after which the route steadily gains height through the forest. After just over two kilometres, the highest point is reached near Gibidum at around 1,660 m. The snowshoe trail then leads through the forest to the Hüoterhüsi viewpoint, located directly on the route.
Beyond it, the terrain opens out into meadows and pastures. The snowshoe trail descends in a wide arc and reaches Bodme roughly halfway along the route. On the return, open slopes alternate with longer sections of forest; the total ascent and descent each amount to around 360 metres. Towards the end, the first houses of Visperterminen come back into view. After just over three and a half hours, the loop ends at the bus terminal.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
