Alpe Äbnet–Hannigalp Trail

Attractive snowshoe trail through Grächen’s landscape with views of 14 four-thousand-metre peaks, including the world-famous Matterhorn. The snowshoe trail sets off from Alpe Äbnet. From here, the trail is relatively flat to begin with, becoming steeper as it passes through conifer forests and up to Hannigalp.

The snowshoe tour begins at Alpe Äbnet above Grächen, away from public transport. The nearest stop, Grächen, Schmidji, is around 600 m away.

At first, the route leads gently downhill through the forest. The elevation profile then reverses: the trail climbs steadily among the trees, gaining most of its roughly 360 metres of elevation over a short distance. For much of the way, the route remains in the forest. As the altitude increases, the woodland gradually becomes more open.

In the upper section, clearings increasingly open up between the trees. The final metres of ascent lead through more open terrain, with the gradient remaining noticeable right to the end. After three kilometres and just under two hours, the highest point is reached at Hannigalp, at around 2,100 m. The Hannigalp mountain station is located around 60 m from the destination.
