01/ Overview
The route
This route from Stafelbar to Wannihorn is the royal road amongst Grächen’s snowshoe trails. At the top, your efforts are rewarded by spectacular panoramic views – the Weisshorn, the Bietschhorn beyond the Rhône Valley and, to the east, the Weissmies Group are all guaranteed to cast their spell on you.
The five-kilometre snowshoe circuit begins at the Hannigalp mountain station. From just over 2,100 m, the route initially climbs steadily across open terrain. As the elevation increases, the slopes become more barren, with ever more rock emerging between the open expanses. The total ascent amounts to around 500 metres.
Near the Wannehorn, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,600 m. Shortly afterwards, it leads to Küchenwang, a rocky pass and the tour’s distinctive turning point. The Distelhorn, a summit in the Valais Alps above Grächen, lies slightly off the route.
The snowshoe route then steadily loses elevation again. Rocky terrain gives way to more open slopes and, lower down, to forest. After a little over three hours, the circuit ends back at the Hannigalp mountain station; the Hannigalp (Bergst. Grächen) stop is just a few steps away.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
