01/ Overview
The route
In 1957 the female citizens of Unterbäch were the first women in Switzerland to obtain the right to vote – 14 years before it was adopted nationwide. The Frauenzitate-Trail (Trail of Women’s Quotes) is dedicated to these courageous women. On the snowshoe tour from Brandalp to Unterbäch you will find a variety of quotes from world-famous women.
The snowshoe tour starts at Brand above Unterbäch; the Brand bus stop is only about ten metres away. The route begins at approximately 1,596 m; the start is also the highest point, after which the path descends quickly across open alp meadows. Passing the farms Brandalp, Finele and Ta, the way leads toward the valley. Between the farms the view repeatedly opens into the valley. The four kilometres can be covered in roughly one and a half to two hours.
In the middle section the path draws into the forest and the descent becomes quieter; further down the small settlement Holz appears. Toward the end a short stretch leads down over open terrain away from the paths. The ascents add up to around 70 metres, the route loses a total of about 440 metres and ends at the valley station Unterbäch.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
