01/ Overview
The route
A gentle circuit across the Horben plateau, with open pastures, panoramic views at Sulzer Kreuz and a peaceful return along the edge of Sulzer Wald.
The starting point is the Alpwirtschaft Horben mountain inn on the Lindenberg ridge. The nearest bus stop, Brunnwil, Weiler, is around 1.4 km away. From Horben, the waymarked hiking trail initially crosses open meadows and, after a gentle ascent to just under 860 m, reaches the highest point of the circuit. At Sulzer Kreuz, the panorama opens up; a peak finder helps identify the mountains in view.
The route then turns towards Sulzer Wald. With no major changes in elevation, it follows the edge of the forest, alternating between shady sections and open pastures. Towards the end, Horben comes back into view. Near the finish stands Schloss Horben, built in the early 18th century as a summer residence for the monks of Muri Monastery. The trail passes St. Wendelin Chapel before returning to the Alpwirtschaft Horben mountain inn.
