01/ Overview

The route

A short village circuit through Wengen combining climate knowledge with geology. An app and audio guide highlight evidence of climate change.

The short circuit starts at Wengen railway station and leads through the village and across open meadows. Along the way, the Jungfrau Climate Guide app draws attention to signs of climate change and provides information on the climate in audio form. The route is also designed as a geological hiking trail. Early on, it climbs gently to its highest point at around 1,300 m before descending again between houses and meadows.

In the village, the circuit passes directly by St Bernard’s Church. A little later, Wengiboden and Restaurant 1903 lie close to the route. A short section then follows the marked hiking trail; the remainder runs along other paths through the built-up area and across open ground. After around 2 km, the route reaches Wengen again near Waldschluecht. From there, it is only a few steps to the railway station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
