Via Alpina, Stage 12/20

The sunny terrace of Mürren lies directly opposite the Eiger, Mönch &Jungfrau. The trail leads on via Alpine pastures, vantage points such as Bryndli and sturdy huts such as the Rotstockhütte to the Sefinenfurgge, the impressive pass into the Kiental.

The long ascent out of the valley begins at the Lauterbrunnen stop. Before long, the 297-metre Staubbachfall comes into view, its water plunging from the left side of the valley and dispersing widely in thermal currents. The mountain trail climbs steeply before reaching the meadows and houses of Mürren.

Beyond Mürren, the landscape becomes increasingly open and rocky. The route continues uphill across alpine pastures; the hiking trail soon becomes a mountain trail again. The highest point lies at around 2,600 m. Shortly afterwards, the trail crosses the Sefinenfurgge, which connects the Sefinental with the Kiental.

Beyond the pass, the long descent begins. It initially leads through open, stony terrain, while farther down alpine pastures alternate with stretches of forest. Towards the end, the trail becomes gentler and leads to the first houses of Griesalp. After around 22 kilometres and just over nine hours, the hike ends a few steps from the Griesalp, Kurhaus stop.
