01/ Overview
The route
The Jura Crest Trail links Zurich and Genève in a sweeping arc. Running through two language regions, the long trail has extensive views and offers discovery of a varied landscape. A respite from everyday hustle and bustle and mass tourism.
From the Dielsdorf stop, the multi-day long-distance hike leads via Regensberg to Baden, where it passes the Bailiff’s Castle on the banks of the Limmat. Soon, wooded ridges, open pastures and long ascents set the rhythm. The route follows marked hiking trails almost throughout. In total, the 320 kilometres amount to a good 100 hours of hiking.
The trail heads west across the heights of the Aargau and Solothurn Jura. After Weissenstein and Obergrenchenberg, Chasseral provides the first major highlight. Its elongated ridge reaches 1'606 m and forms the highest elevation in the Bernese Jura. Beyond the Vue des Alpes, forests and open Jura landscapes alternate as far as Noiraigue and Sainte-Croix.
In the Vaud Jura, the route climbs from Vallorbe via the Col du Mollendruz to Mont Tendre. At just under 1'680 m, this is the highest point of the entire tour and also the highest elevation in the Swiss Jura. The trail then gradually descends from the Jura heights via Saint-Cergue. Fields and settlements accompany the final kilometres to the Nyon stop.
