01/ Overview

The route

Gently uphill through vineyards to the small town of Regensberg and Lägern with wonderful views. Then the descent to Baden and to the Gebenstorfer Horn with views of Switzerland’s natural water resources, Brugg on the River Aare and nearby Windisch.

From the Dielsdorf stop, this long day hike initially follows the Hinterdorfbach before climbing to Regensberg. The route then enters the forest. The hiking trail ascends to the Alt-Lägern ruins and the wooded Lägern, at around 860 m the highest point on the route.

Heading west, the trail becomes a mountain hiking trail marked in white-red-white for several kilometres. This section along the wooded ridge requires greater sure-footedness before the descent reaches Ennetbaden and Baden. Directly on the route, Landvogteischloss stands on the right bank of the Limmat; it once guarded the narrow passage opposite the old town. The trail leads over Schlossberg and past the Sankt-Nikolaus-Kapelle, the medieval court chapel of Burg Stein.

Beyond Baden, stretches of forest alternate with open meadows. Via Baldegg, the route continues towards Gebenstorf and Windisch before reaching Brugg on the Aare. Near the old town stands the Schwarzer Turm, the city’s oldest building and landmark. After 25 kilometres and just over seven hours, the hike ends at the Brugg AG stop.
