01/ Overview
The route
Typical Jura: fa river, its spring in a nearby grotto, then a hike along a mountain with wonderful views and lastly two lakes with no visible outlets. So characteristic of the Vallée de Joux, cradle of many world-renowned luxury watches.
From the Ballaigues, cure bus stop, the hiking trail leads down out of the village to Lac du Day. The route begins gently close to the water before continuing to Vallorbe. There, the Auberge Communale stands directly beside the trail.
Beyond Vallorbe, the long main ascent begins. Sections of forest alternate with open Jura slopes as the hiking trail steadily gains height. After a total ascent of around 900 metres, it reaches the Dent de Vaulion, the highest point at 1'483 m. The striking mountain ridge drops away to the north in rock faces up to 200 m high, while its southern side slopes much more gently.
From the summit, the hike descends across open pastures and through forest to the Col de Pétra Félix. The final section continues to Le Pont. Shortly before the destination lies the Restaurant du Lac; a few steps later, the tour ends at the Le Pont (lac) stop, near Lac de Joux, the largest lake in the Jura massif.
