Sentier de la Jougnena

The historical trail through the Jougnena valley shows the close connection between Jougne, Ballaigues and Vallorbe. Information panels illustrate the history of the valley from Roman times to the present day. Along the way, you can visit the Vallorbe Iron and Railway Museum, the Le Day viaduct and the Saint-Maurice chapel.

The roughly five-hour circular hike begins at the Vallorbe, poste bus stop and leads through the small town. A marked hiking trail heads towards Le Day and descends to Lac du Day. The route skirts the shore of the small lake before climbing to Ballaigues, where a fountain directly beside the trail provides a welcome opportunity for a break.

Beyond the last houses, open meadows alternate with woodland. A longer section runs outside the marked hiking network and continues uphill, interspersed with several flatter stretches. After around twelve kilometres, the route reaches its highest point at approximately 970 metres. Expansive pastures define this section, repeatedly giving way to woodland.

The long return route leads via Les Piquets and gradually descends into the valley. Towards the end, the first houses of Vallorbe come into view. The route passes the Catholic church and continues through the town back to the starting point; the Vallorbe, poste bus stop is only a few steps away.
