Jura Crest Trail, Stage 7/16

From the low-lying Schüss Valley to the crest of the Bernese Jura. An almost constant, yet comfortable climb to scale the Chasseral, already seen from afar. Sensational panoramic view with the Mittelland lakes: a feast for the eyes.

The long ascent to the highest point of the Bernese Jura begins at the Frinvillier, village bus stop. The waymarked hiking trail leaves the village and soon climbs through the forest. At Geissrücken, it is worth taking a first break at the viewpoint. Shady stretches of forest then alternate with open Jura pastures. In all, around 1,350 metres of elevation gain must be tackled over the 17 kilometres.

About halfway along, the route passes the Jurahaus. The landscape then becomes increasingly open, and the long ridge of the Chasseral draws closer. The trail continues to climb across pastures and reaches a panoramic viewpoint shortly before the destination. A little later, the Chasseral is reached at around 1,600 m, marking the highest point of the hike. Just under six hours should be allowed for the entire route. The endpoint is not served directly by public transport; the nearest stop, Chasseral, Hôtel, is around 1.3 kilometres away.
