ViaJura, Stage 7/7

The trail follows the Suze through gorges and deep valleys on its way from the hilly, forested Jura to the lively city of Biel. Through narrow tunnels in the rock and under the pillars of the roads, you can see how deeply the river has cut into the 150-million-year-old rock.

The hike begins in Sonceboz, close to the Sonceboz-Sombeval, gare stop. The yellow-waymarked trail leaves the built-up area and climbs between open meadows and woodland to the heights of the Jura. After around four kilometres, the highest point is reached at approximately 725 m. The route then descends to La Heutte.

Further on, stretches of woodland alternate with villages. The trail descends at a moderate gradient to Péry, passing directly by the Café du Jura. It then continues via Rondchâtel towards Frinvillier. Rocky terrain provides a striking accent here before the longer descent into the lower-lying Biel area.

After 14 kilometres and a little over three and a half hours, the hike ends in Biel at the Biel/Bienne, Taubenloch stop. Around 300 metres of ascent and 500 metres of descent characterise this straightforward route: plenty of woodland, interspersed with open areas and villages, always on waymarked hiking trails.
