01/ Overview
The route
From Bellelay, this stage leads along the peat bog of La Sagne. Through forests and across pastures, it climbs up to the gentle Jura height, where you remain for a few kilometres. The path descends across open pastures to the destination for the first stage, the village of Tramelan.
The approximately eleven-kilometre hike begins at the Bellelay, Le Domaine bus stop. The trail leaves the village and climbs between open pastures and forest to the Col du Fuet. A short section away from the marked hiking trail network follows before the route rejoins a yellow-marked hiking trail. At the Mont viewpoint, the landscape opens out across the Jura heights.
Alternating between open woodland and pasture, the route follows the Montbautier ridge. After Rière Jorat, it reaches its highest point at just under 1,200 m. The main ascent is now complete, and the trail descends gradually across the open expanses of Prés aux Liattes.
Towards the end, the meadows give way to the first houses of Tramelan. A steeper descent leads into the village and close to the railway station. After just over three hours, the hike ends at the Tramelan, gare stop.
