01/ Overview
The route
The gentle descent through the wooded, hilly Jura landscape with its impressive old trees leads past ponds, moorlands, extensive pastures and avenues of trees. Behind Tavannes, the route passes through a natural rock passage already used by the Romans.
From the Sornetan bus stop, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the village and climbs between open meadows and stretches of woodland. After just over two kilometres, it reaches the highest point at around 1,010 m. Shortly afterwards, the route passes through Moron with its church; from here, the long, mostly gentle descent begins.
The trail continues through woodland and across pastures to Col du Fuet and then on to Le Fuet. It remains easy, alternating between shady sections of woodland, open pastures and small settlements. After just under three hours, it reaches Tavannes and passes the Auberge de la Poste.
Beyond Tavannes, the trail climbs gently once more towards Col de Pierre Pertuis, near the watershed between the Birs and the Schüss. It then descends through woodland and open terrain to Sonceboz. After around 15 kilometres and just over four hours, the hike ends in the village; Sonceboz-Sombeval railway station is only a few minutes’ walk away.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
